President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Anambra State on Thursday, May 8, 2025, for a significant official visit aimed at commissioning key infrastructural projects completed under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration. Among those who accompanied the President was the National Security Adviser, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu, along with other top government officials.
Touching down at the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri around 12:17 p.m., the President was received by Governor Soludo, his deputy Onyekachukwu Ibezim, members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, and other high-ranking dignitaries.
He proceeded to the ceremonial podium for the national anthem before inspecting a guard of honour mounted by personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force. He was then ushered into an official vehicle alongside Governor Soludo, heading toward the venues where the commissioning ceremonies are expected to take place.
This visit marks President Tinubu’s second trip to the South-East this year, following his earlier visit to Enugu State in January, during which he also met with stakeholders and commissioned projects.
Among the projects slated for commissioning are the newly constructed Anambra State Government House—being completed for the first time in the state’s 34-year history—and the New Governor’s Lodge. These projects are widely seen as transformative milestones in the administrative landscape of the state.
Also on the president’s agenda is the commissioning of the Solution Fun City, a multi-facility entertainment and leisure park comprising the Anambra Country Club, a Family Fun House, a Water Park, and an Amusement Park. The development is aimed at boosting tourism and offering modern recreational facilities to the people of the state and beyond.
President Tinubu is also expected to inaugurate the Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy, situated within Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka. The institute, named after the globally respected diplomat and former Commonwealth Secretary-General, is envisioned as a hub for international research and policy engagement.
Additional events lined up for the visit include the unveiling of the Anambra Tower of Light and the Monument of Statues of Five Anambra Heroes, a symbolic tribute to iconic figures from the state who have made lasting contributions to Nigeria’s history and development.
The President is scheduled to return to Abuja later on Thursday after concluding his engagements in Anambra.
