The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates.
The 2025 WASSCE for school candidates took place between April 24 and June 20, 2025, lasting a total of six weeks.
In a statement shared via its official X handle on Monday, August 4, 2025, the examination body confirmed that candidates who sat for this year’s examination can now check their results online.
“The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 4, 2025,” WAEC stated.
The Council also advised candidates to access their results through its online portal, noting: “To access the result, log on to http://waecdirect.org.”
However, the announcement was accompanied by a concerning report on the overall performance of candidates. Speaking to journalists in Lagos, WAEC’s Head of National Office in Nigeria, Amos Dangut, disclosed a significant decline in candidates’ performance compared to the previous year.
According to Dangut, “A comparison of the percentage of candidates in this category in WASSCE for School 2024 and 2025, reveal that in this year’s (2025) WASSCE, there is 33.8% decrease in performance (that is, those who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, was 72.12%).”
