President of the United States, Donald Trump has announced what he described as a “Complete and Total Ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, following nearly two weeks of military exchanges that brought both countries to the brink of all-out war.
The announcement was made late Monday on his social media platform, Truth Social, where Trump shared a message celebrating the deal and praising both nations for reaching an agreement. He wrote:
“A COMPLETE AND TOTAL CEASEFIRE HAS BEEN AGREED UPON BETWEEN ISRAEL AND IRAN. I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end THE 12 DAY WAR. God bless Israel, God bless Iran, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
According to details of the arrangement, Iran was to halt its attacks first, with Israel following twelve hours later. A full ceasefire from both sides was expected after twenty-four hours. However, within hours of the announcement, Israeli officials claimed that Iran had launched fresh missile attacks, prompting Israel to strike an Iranian radar site near Tehran. Iran denied launching any new attacks and in turn accused Israel of violating the agreement.
Reacting to the reports of Israeli retaliation, Trump returned to Truth Social to issue a stern warning to Israeli authorities. In a sharply worded post, he said:
“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”
Later, he gave an update suggesting that Israeli fighter jets had pulled back:
“ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect!”
Addressing journalists outside the White House on Tuesday, Trump did not hide his frustration with the way both sides handled the initial stages of the truce.
Sources close to the former president said Trump personally contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged him to hold off on further strikes. Meanwhile, members of his team — including Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio — worked through Qatari mediators to ensure Iran remained committed to the ceasefire.
The agreement came after a sharp escalation that saw Israel launch airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Iran respond with missile salvos. The United States also became directly involved, striking several Iranian targets in what the Pentagon described as a deterrent action.
