I Won’t Be Distracted from Doing What Is Right – President Tinubu

Date:

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said he will not allow himself to be distracted from doing what is right for the country, regardless of criticism. This message was delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during the launch of the autobiography of former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, titled “Being True to Myself,” held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

Speaking at the event where President Tinubu was the Grand Guest of Honour, Idris described Lamido’s book as “a significant contribution to Nigeria’s political literature and democratic discourse.” He praised Lamido’s political journey, describing it as one marked by “courage, consistency, and commitment to democratic ideals.”

“This is not merely the unveiling of a book,” the Minister said. “It is the celebration of a life defined by courage, consistency, and commitment to democratic ideals. Alhaji Sule Lamido, though a staunch member of the political opposition and often a critic of the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains one of the strong pillars of Nigeria’s political evolution.”

Tinubu, through the Minister, emphasized his belief in political inclusivity and the role of opposition in a healthy democracy. “Every citizen, regardless of party affiliation, has a seat at the table of national discourse,” he stated.

He went on to commend the ten-year effort that went into writing the autobiography, calling it “a labour of resilience.” He encouraged other political figures to take inspiration from Lamido by documenting their own experiences.

Reflecting on the title of the book, Idris said, “Being True to Myself aptly captures Lamido’s reputation as a blunt and principled politician.” He compared the former governor’s qualities to those of President Tinubu, adding that “Tinubu remains true to himself and Nigeria’s core ideals—truth, justice, peace, and shared prosperity.”

The Minister spoke about the President’s focus on economic reforms and national development. “Are we saying that we are where we need to be and that there isn’t room for more work to be done? Certainly not. What we are saying is simple: that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated uncommon audacity and vision to set Nigeria on the path of true growth and development.”

On the issue of security, he assured Nigerians that the President remains focused on safeguarding lives and the nation’s sovereignty. He also called for recognition of the sacrifices made by the armed forces. The administration’s recent tax reform efforts were mentioned as part of broader steps to grow national revenue “without imposing unnecessary burdens on citizens.”

“President Tinubu welcomes constructive criticism at all times, in the spirit of freedom of speech and democratic engagement, but he will also never allow himself to be distracted from doing what is right for Nigeria,” Idris concluded.
