First Lady Remi Tinubu has announced a ₦1 billion donation through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to support families affected by the brutal attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Mrs. Tinubu made the announcement on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the state, held at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House.
In June, suspected Fulani herdsmen stormed Yelewata in a deadly assault that left over 100 people dead and forced many others from their homes, sparking widespread grief and condemnation across the country.
Addressing government officials and community leaders, she expressed sorrow over the tragic incident.
According to the First Lady, the donation is meant to help affected families rebuild their lives.
“On behalf of the governing council of the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI will be making a donation of ₦1 billion to help displaced families get back on their feet, return to earning a living, and have a better life,” she announced.
“This is in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Initiative as captured in our motto: Towards a Better Life for Families,” she added.
Mrs. Tinubu, who also serves as the chairperson of RHI, described the massacre as heartbreaking.
“As a mother, I urge all of us to learn to accept this times as very challenging times.
“Our job is to play complementary and supportive role.
“It is heart wrenching to believe that people want to live in peace then destruction will come suddenly.
“So, for me, hope is not lost. We’ve heard you and I believe my sister the First Lady of Nasarawa State has heard you,” she added.
