Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has threatened to sue activist Deji Adeyanju over a series of social media publications his lawyers described as false and malicious.
Obi, through his lawyer, Alex Ejesieme (SAN), alleged that Adeyanju has been consistently making false and malicious remarks about him on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and other online platforms.
The letter of demand claimed that Adeyanju has repeatedly painted the former Anambra State governor as corrupt, deceitful, and a religious bigot, with some of the posts, dating as far back as 2022, allegedly aimed at damaging Obi’s reputation both within Nigeria and internationally.
Among the remarks cited was Adeyanju’s claim that Obi once attempted to bribe him during a private meeting.
The notice also referenced a more recent post from August 21 in which Adeyanju alleged that Obi invested state funds in a company linked to his family during his tenure as governor.
Obi’s lawyers dismissed the allegations as “false, malicious, and contrived.”
The letter also alleged that Adeyanju described Obi as “the leader of a mob” and “a scum,” comments which Obi’s lawyers argued were deliberately intended to present him as an anarchist and a divisive figure.
Obi is now demanding that Adeyanju take down all defamatory posts, issue a public apology across his social media pages, and also publish apologies in three national newspapers.
Failure to comply within seven days, the letter warned, would compel Obi to file a lawsuit demanding aggravated damages, a restraining injunction, and recovery of legal expenses.
“The statements have been widely disseminated, causing untold damage to our client’s reputation and integrity,” the letter read in part.
