Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has reported himself to the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja following the circulation of a viral video showing him holding a gun-like object while driving an unregistered vehicle.
Although the object seen in the clip appeared to resemble a firearm, Pastor Adefarasin has denied that it was a gun.
Confirming that investigations are ongoing, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin wrote in a WhatsApp message: “No one is above the law! Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives.
“They have commenced an investigation into the case following the emergence of a video showing the pastor holding a gun-like object toward another road user while driving in an unregistered vehicle.
“The outcome of the investigation will be made public.”
The video in question surfaced online and quickly went viral, showing Pastor Adefarasin holding a metallic object while speaking to a passerby who was recording him. The footage sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some alleging that the object resembled a firearm.
Reacting to the controversy, Pastor Adefarasin posted a message to his social media platforms on Saturday, dismissing the firearm claims as a misunderstanding.
“You might be aware of a video circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm. I want to assure you — that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone,” he stated.
Addressing the issue further during Sunday service, the pastor alleged that the incident was part of a deliberate attempt to attract online traffic and make money through misleading content. He firmly denied the accusations, maintaining that he neither carried a firearm nor possessed a pistol license.
He went on to explain: “What we had to witness was clickbait, just looking for more money. I probably wasn’t even their target; their target was to make more money, and I was falsely accused of bearing a firearm, pointing a firearm at an aggressive content creator who came within personal distance — anything separating me and him was maybe three-quarters of a meter or closer.”
“I do not have a pistol license for a firearm, I do not carry a firearm, and I pointed no firearm at anybody,” Pastor Adefarasin said.
