The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that the controversial device held by Pastor Paul Adefarasin in a widely circulated video is a prohibited stun gun and not a firearm as many had feared.
Public concern erupted after the House on the Rock founder was seen in a viral clip holding what appeared to be a gun-like object while driving an unregistered vehicle. Responding to the uproar, the police provided clarity through an official statement posted Tuesday on the Command’s verified X handle (formerly Twitter).
Nigerianews previously reported that Pastor Adefarasin, voluntarily presented himself to investigators at the Command headquarters. He was interrogated over the incident and gave a cautionary statement to the officers handling the case.
“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment,” the police statement confirmed.
Further assuring the public, the Command noted that the object in question was successfully recovered and examined, putting to rest speculations of the pastor possessing a firearm.
The police also confirmed that Adefarasin has been granted administrative bail pending the outcome of the investigation, which will be made public upon conclusion.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered cautionary statement to the police investigators,” the statement read.
“The pastor has been granted bail while investigations continue into the case,” the police concluded.
