Super Eagles have won the 2025 Unity Cup after a hard-fought match against Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz ended 2-2 in regular time and extra time. Nigeria clinched the trophy by winning 5-4 in the penalty shootout at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, London.
Moses Simon put Nigeria ahead early, scoring in the 9th minute after a well-placed cross from Cyriel Dessers. Jamaica responded later in the first half when Kaheim Dixon converted a pass from Renaldo Cephas, bringing the game level at 1-1.
In the second half, Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s lead with a left-footed strike in the 53rd minute. Jamaica equalised again ten minutes later. Jonathan Russell scored the second for the Reggae Boyz, assisted once again by Cephas.
Both teams had chances to win the match in regulation and extra time, but neither side could find a winner, and the match went to penalties. Each team scored their first four attempts. The fifth round proved decisive when Jamaica’s Dwayne Atkinson hit the crossbar. Nigeria’s Christantus Uche then stepped up and scored, sealing the win.
The tournament featured four national teams: Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. It was organised to promote cultural exchange and strengthen bonds between African and Caribbean communities living in London. The event drew large support from fans in the diaspora, many of whom turned out to watch their home countries compete.
This is Nigeria’s second Unity Cup title. The first came in 2004, during the inaugural edition of the competition.
