Mercy Johnson Opens Up About Cancer Scare, Addresses Rumours of Illness

Date:

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie recently revealed she had a cancer scare, which required the surgical removal of her thyroid gland. In a heartfelt interview with veteran actress Joke Silva, Mercy opened up about the emotional and physical challenges she faced during that difficult period.

“I had a cancer scare, and I had my thyroid removed,” Mercy disclosed. “It was like a journey for us because we have kids, and my last born was six months old at that time. My husband and I kept saying, ‘We have to understand that this is the new us. Let’s get the surgery done.’”

Following the operation, doctors informed her that she would require medication for the rest of her life to manage her condition. Mercy explained, “They told me I can’t miss my medication and explained the side effects. I’m now at a place of acceptance, trying to reconcile everything—including the changes in my body. This is where we are now. Let’s grow from here and find comfort in this new normal.”

Despite opening up about her health scare, rumours soon spread that Mercy Johnson was battling cancer after a clip of her comments went viral. In response, the actress took to social media to clear the air and reassure fans.

“First and foremost, thank you so much for all of you who have been calling in and sending messages and prayers. Thank you. I do appreciate it so much. But I do not have cancer,” Mercy emphasized. “I noticed that a clip from my TV show, Mercy’s Menu, has been flying around. And I think it was cut. They cut the clip. I said I had a cancer scare. It means that I had this swelling on my neck. If you can see the line there. And my doctor felt it was something serious. I had problems with my thyroid. I’m perfectly okay.”

She continued, “This phone has been buzzing like crazy. I am perfectly fine. And I do not have cancer. I am perfectly okay. So, thank you so much for checking up on me. Thank you for sending all those messages. Go back and watch the clip. It was completely misunderstood. I am fine. I do not have cancer, in Jesus’ name. Thank you, guys, so much.”

Recently, videos showing Mercy Johnson with a significant weight loss have sparked concern among fans, leading many to speculate about her health and wellbeing.
