Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of the Gusau Emirate, following the death of his father, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, who died on July 25, 2025, after a ten-year reign.
Alhaji Abdulkadir, the eldest son of the late Emir, now becomes the 16th ruler of the Gusau Emirate. Prior to his elevation, he held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau.
The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, confirmed the appointment, noting that it followed the recommendation of the Emirate’s kingmakers, in line with tradition and the laws governing the selection of traditional rulers in the state.
The new Emir is a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, the founder of the Gusau Emirate, and hails from a royal lineage that has shaped the Emirate’s cultural and political history.
In his official congratulatory message, Governor Lawal urged the new Emir to uphold his father’s legacy and serve as a symbol of peace and unity.
He urged the monarch to use his position to foster development, social harmony, and inclusive governance within the Emirate and across Zamfara State.
