The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced plans to host the 2025 edition of its Tax Clinic in Lagos as part of efforts to improve tax awareness and compliance among Nigeria’s small businesses, startups, and informal sector players.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the agency revealed that the two-day event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 15, and Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Marcellina’s Place, beside Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
Described as a practical outreach programme, the Tax Clinic is organised by the FIRS Emerging Taxpayers’ Group (ETG) under the theme “Tax Clinic for Tax Clarity.” According to the FIRS, the initiative is “designed to simplify tax processes and boost voluntary compliance among small businesses, startups, and informal sector operators across Nigeria.”
The event will provide new and prospective taxpayers with practical knowledge on tax filing, business registration, dispute resolution, and other key areas. Participants will also benefit from expert presentations, panel discussions, interactive service desks, and live Q&A sessions.
Speaking about the initiative, Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, emphasised the agency’s commitment to accessible and transparent tax administration. “It reflects the agency’s commitment to making tax administration more transparent and accessible,” he stated. “It represents a practical step towards building trust and strengthening inclusion within the country’s tax system.”
The FIRS said the clinic would bring together representatives from a range of key agencies and professional organisations including the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Joint Tax Board (JTB), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), and Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).
Professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) will also be on hand to provide advisory support.
Attendees will be able to access personalised assistance on how to file taxes, register businesses, resolve tax disputes, and explore available incentives. The Nigerian Medical Association will complement the event by offering free basic medical screenings at the venue.
To encourage early participation, the FIRS announced that the first 300 on-site registrants will receive branded gift items. For those unable to attend in person, the event will also be livestreamed, allowing individuals, entrepreneurs, trade associations, and professionals from across Nigeria to join virtually.
The Tax Clinic has become a central component of the FIRS strategy to deepen tax education and engagement, particularly among emerging enterprises and operators in the informal sector who often struggle to navigate the country’s tax framework.
With this latest edition, the FIRS hopes to demystify tax processes, build public trust, and support the national objective of broadening Nigeria’s tax revenue base.
