The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays nationwide in celebration of Eid-ul-Adha. The announcement was made on Monday, June 2, 2025, through a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, spoke on behalf of the Federal Government, extending warm congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria and the Diaspora as they prepare to observe one of Islam’s most significant festivals. He said, “The Federal Government has declared Friday, 6th, and Monday, 9th June, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.”
The minister urged the Muslim community to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him), adding, “He called on the Muslim Ummah to continue to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and faith as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and to also use the period to pray for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of the Eid period as an opportunity to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity across the nation. He reassured citizens of the administration’s dedication to national development by stating, “The people-oriented reforms and initiatives carried out, in furtherance of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, are to restore Nigeria on the path of progress.”
Concluding the statement, the minister wished all Muslims a happy Eid and called on all Nigerians to support the government’s efforts: “While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the minister urged all Nigerians to join hands with the present administration in its efforts to restore the glory of Nigeria as a great nation.”
