The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched following the circulation of a viral video on social media, where an unidentified man alleged harassment by police officers during a routine patrol.
In an official statement issued on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that preliminary findings revealed the incident took place on June 4, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM. She explained that a surveillance team from the Kubwa Area Command was on a routine patrol around the Chikakore Bridge axis — a location currently under close watch due to heightened security concerns — when they noticed a vehicle parked suspiciously for over 20 minutes along the FO1–Chikakore Road.
“While attempting to question them to ascertain their identity and business there, one of the individuals reacted aggressively, questioning the officers’ presence and accusing them of harassment,” Adeh stated.
The man reportedly attracted the attention of passersby, attempting to escalate the incident and drawing public curiosity to the scene, which was later recorded and circulated widely online.
“In view of the video’s circulation and in the spirit of transparency, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ajao Adewale, has summoned the officers involved,” Adeh confirmed. “Internal administrative procedures are now underway.”
Adeh further called on the individuals seen in the viral footage to formally present their account of events to aid the ongoing investigation and ensure the matter is examined from all perspectives.
According to the police statement, the Command aims to uphold “the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and respectful engagement with the public,” and the investigation will reflect this commitment.
