An explosion occurred on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the bus stop opposite the Mogadishu Cantonment, along the Nyanya-Mararaba road in Abuja. The incident triggered panic among residents and commuters in the area. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the incident, noting that emergency protocols were immediately activated to secure the scene and investigate the cause of the blast.
According to a statement signed by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Police Command, “On May 26th, 2025 at approximately 2:50 PM, the FCT Police Command received a distress report regarding an explosion along Mararaba-Nyanya bypass.”
She explained that, “Upon receipt of the report, officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were immediately deployed to the scene. The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for clearance and analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.”
The explosion led to at least one injury. “One male victim was rescued at the scene and promptly taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” the police spokesperson revealed.
To uncover the cause of the incident, police say forensic investigations are already underway. “A comprehensive investigation has commenced, including detailed forensic analysis, to ascertain the exact cause and nature of the explosion,” SP Adeh said.
In the wake of the incident, the Command reassured the public that the situation is under control and there is no immediate threat. “The FCT Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, as there is currently no cause for alarm,” the statement emphasized.
Residents were also encouraged to be vigilant and to report any unusual activity or suspicious items. “Residents are also enjoined to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, objects, or movements to the nearest police station, or contact the Command through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 07057337653,” the statement concluded.
