Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District and serves as the Senate Minority Leader, has issued a strong condemnation of the recent violent attacks on the Edikwu-Ankpali community in Apa Local Government Area. He described the killings and kidnappings as “unprovoked and unacceptable,” highlighting the grave insecurity currently afflicting the region.
The senator made these remarks during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the community on Thursday, accompanied by Hon. Ojotu Ojema, Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and other concerned stakeholders. Their visit came shortly after a brutal assault by suspected herdsmen that left eleven residents dead, many injured, and scores displaced from their homes.
Addressing the bereaved community members, Senator Moro expressed profound sorrow over the persistent violence that has plagued parts of Benue South for an extended period. He emphasized the need for urgent action, noting that the communities are under constant threat, and despite repeated pleas for help, the attacks have continued unabated.
“These killings and kidnappings are unprovoked and unacceptable. Our communities are under siege, and it is heartbreaking that cries for help have not been met with adequate response,” Moro stated, underscoring the seriousness of the crisis.
The senator pledged his unwavering commitment to advocating for the protection of lives and property, leveraging his role in the Senate and working with other elected officials to restore peace. Moro vowed to continue raising his voice against the violence until lasting security is guaranteed for the people of Benue South.
“I will not remain silent. I will not back down. I will continue to demand justice and security for our people. This is not merely a political duty, but a moral obligation,” he declared, reaffirming his dedication to ending the cycle of violence that has devastated communities and disrupted lives in the region.
