President Bola Tinubu arrived in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday afternoon amid rising concerns over recent violent attacks that have claimed several lives in the state.

The President landed at the Nigerian Air Force Tactical Air Command Base in Makurdi at about 12:58 p.m.

Tinubu is expected to visit Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area, one of the areas affected by the attacks that triggered outrage across the country.

While in the state, President Tinubu is also scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, local government officials, and security chiefs. Sources within the Benue State Government revealed that discussions at the meeting would centre on finding lasting solutions to the worsening security situation in the state.

The visit comes days after suspected armed herdsmen attacked Yelwata, killing many residents and destroying properties.

The Benue State Government had declared Wednesday a public holiday in honour of the President’s visit.

Many see the visit as a sign of the Federal Government’s willingness to confront insecurity
