At least five policemen and three Community Protection Guards were killed by bandits while on patrol along Gusau-Funtuwa road in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The spokesperson to the Zamfara State Governor, Suleiman Idris Gusau, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, there was an attack that led to the unfortunate death of eight security personnel. But this will not affect the progress already made in restoring peace to Zamfara. Government and security agencies are fully committed to ending the menace of banditry once and for all,” Idris Gusau stated.
He expressed the state government’s deep sorrow over the loss of the officers but stressed that security agencies are unwavering in their mission. Operations are being intensified in known hotspot areas to ensure the attackers are tracked down and held accountable.
Sources within the security network revealed that additional forces have been dispatched to the scene to strengthen patrols, prevent further attacks, and pursue the fleeing bandits.
Governor Dauda Lawal has extended his condolences to the families of the deceased security personnel on his Facebook page, praying for divine comfort.
“I just received sad news of the death of eight securitymen, comprising policemen and the Community Protection Guards, who were ambushed and killed by bandits along Gusau-Funtuwa road. May Allah forgive them and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. We pray to Allah to bring an end to the insecurity problem affecting Zamfara state, the north and the entire nation,” he said.
He also added, “To Allah we belong and to him we shall return.”
