Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after a short vacation in London, dismissing speculation about his health.
He arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 4 a.m. on Monday from London, where he was received at the presidential wing by senators and associates.
His return followed rumours on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised in London. Speaking with journalists at the airport, Akpabio described the reports as false and baseless.
“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” he said.
Before travelling to the UK, Akpabio attended the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, which held from July 29 to 31.
On criticism over the large Nigerian delegation at the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, he maintained that the participation was important and would help build stronger democratic governance and effective collaboration with the other arms of government.
The senate president also said Nigerians should expect “robust legislative engagements” when the National Assembly reconvenes from recess.
