Victor Osimhen Celebrates Turkish Cup Win with Galatasaray Teammates

Victor Osimhen helped Galatasaray win the Turkish Cup on Wednesday night with a convincing 3–0 victory over Trabzonspor. The Nigerian striker scored twice in the second half and broke a long-standing club record in the process.

Galatasaray got off to a fast start, taking the lead in the 5th minute through Barış Yılmaz. Yunus Akgün, who had an outstanding night, provided the assist.

Just seconds after the break, Osimhen doubled the lead with a smart finish from a tight angle after another well-placed pass from Akgün. He added his second later in the game, rounding off a counterattack—again set up by Akgün, who assisted all three goals.

The win gave Galatasaray their 19th Turkish Cup title and their first since the 2018/19 season. It also marked Osimhen’s first trophy since joining on loan from Napoli. His two goals brought his total for the season to 35 in all competitions, breaking Mario Jardel’s record for the most goals scored by a foreign player in a single season for the club. Jardel’s record of 34 had stood since the 2000/01 campaign.

In total, Osimhen has played 39 matches for Galatasaray this season, with 35 goals and 7 assists. He also leads the Super Lig scoring chart with 24 goals in 28 games. His consistent performances have made him one of the favourites for the 2025 CAF African Player of the Year award.

After the match, Osimhen praised his teammates and thanked Yunus Akgün for his contribution. “The record is of course a great thing, but I would like to thank my team-mates very much. Especially today, Yunus was very unifying,” he said. “Goals make me happy, of course, but it’s a separate pleasure for me to go down in the history of this great club.”

Osimhen’s form has drawn interest from top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, and Manchester United. But for now, he remains focused on helping Galatasaray finish the season strong, with the league title still in sight.
