President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern directive to Nigeria’s security architecture, demanding a sweeping overhaul in response to escalating violence across the country. This move follows a series of deadly attacks in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states.
Speaking during a high-level security meeting held on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu declared that the current state of insecurity could no longer be tolerated. “Enough is enough,” he stated firmly, signaling a turning point in his administration’s response to national security challenges.
The meeting brought together top military commanders, police heads, and intelligence officials. National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, who briefed journalists afterward, revealed that the President issued new instructions aimed at curbing the spread of violence and restoring peace nationwide.
“We had an extensive and detailed briefing with the President,” Ribadu said. “He was visibly concerned and deeply engaged. Even while he was away on official visits to Paris and London, he continued to issue orders and remained in constant touch with the security apparatus.”
Ribadu noted that recent developments on the ground had prompted the President to call for a more inclusive strategy, emphasizing grassroots engagement. “Security challenges are often rooted in community-level conflicts. The President has directed that we collaborate more closely with governors, local governments, and community leaders,” he explained.
According to Ribadu, security agencies have already taken preliminary steps based on Tinubu’s earlier instructions, including fact-finding visits to violence-hit states. Feedback from those missions formed part of the exhaustive discussions during Wednesday’s session.
The President’s fresh directives signal a renewed urgency in tackling insecurity, with an emphasis on proactive coordination and accountability across all levels of government.
“We’re committed to restoring peace and stability,” Ribadu concluded. “The President has drawn a line, and all security stakeholders are now under clear marching orders.”
