A catastrophic explosion ripped through a passenger truck in Borno State yesterday, killing 26 civilians and critically wounding three others when the vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Cameroon border.
The attack unfolded Monday afternoon along the treacherous corridor connecting Rann and Gamboru Ngala, long considered an insurgent stronghold. Military sources confirm the truck detonated the roadside bomb while transporting families, triggering an explosion so violent that many victims were burned beyond recognition.
“We recovered charred remains scattered across the blast site,” revealed a local resident who assisted with burial efforts. “The community is devastated.”
Intelligence officials believe the attack bears the hallmarks of either Boko Haram or its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), though neither group has claimed responsibility.
